Our Weekly Watering Recommendations
We have continued to receive a significant amount of rainfall in our areas of College Station, Bryan, and NW Houston. More rain is projected in the forecast and our recommendation this week is to hold off on lawn watering. Contact our team if you have any questions or concerns about your lawn.
Spring Landscaping Tips for Upcoming Projects
Springtime will be here before we know it and that may mean new landscaping projects are in the works! We wanted to share some helpful tips on common tree planting mistakes to avoid when adding new additions to your landscaping.
Avoid ‘Volcano Mulching”
Volcano mulching consists of using too much mulch, or mulch piled high around the base of a tree, which can result in girdling roots. Excessive mulch can block much-needed oxygen from the root systems. It can also retain heat and moisture causing damage to the tree trunk and stress on the tree roots.
Proper Placement of New Trees
Just like your lawn, trees need the right environment to survive and stay healthy. Make sure you know how much space is needed for trees or shrubs before you plant them. Avoid planting large trees too close to buildings or walkways.
Proper Planting
Before planting new trees, make sure to remove the packaging. Burlap and other packaging materials will hinder the future growth of the tree and root systems. It’s also important to avoid planting trees too deep. Planting too deep will cause the roots to grow upwards in search of oxygen, eventually choking out the tree trunk.
