Watering Recommendations from Aggieland Green
The rainy weather this week near College Station has provided lawns with sufficient water. Unless the rain skipped your area, we recommend holding off on further watering this week!
As an added note, we are patiently waiting on Mother Nature to provide proper soil temperatures to enhance grass growth. Soil temperatures are a key factor in a successful growing season. For ideal growth, we are looking for a consistent 150 degrees when you combine the day’s highs and lows (Usually 90 for highs and 60 for lows).
Lawn Mowing Recommendations for More Effective Weed Control
Every year comes with its own set of challenges. During wet years, for example, it can be fungus. This year, coming out of last year’s drought, we are working double time to keep up with weeds that are breaking through. Consistent mowing will help. Failure to mow regularly can result in strong, prolific weeds and can cause stress when you finally do mow and injure your turf. Keeping weeds in a premature state allows weed control products to be more effective in limiting weeds in your lawn. We recommend mowing weekly at the recommended height for your lawn’s grass type.
