Our Weekly Watering Recommendations
This past week in Texas has continued the trend of hot, dry summer days! Areas of College Station, Bryan, and NW Houston received very little to no rainfall which means lawns need water. Our recommendation is to continue watering about 3 times per week, aiming for .5 inches during each session. The goal is that lawns receive at least 1.5 inches of water per week for optimal hydration. As we continue into the peak heat of the season, consistent and proper watering is vital for your lawn’s health.
The Best Time of Day to Water Your Lawn in Texas
An important factor in proper lawn watering is following the ideal watering schedule. The best time of day to water your lawn is in the morning, before peak sunlight hours. For Texas lawns, this is normally between 5 AM and 10 AM. Watering later in the afternoon can risk losing water to evaporation from the sun’s heat before it can soak into the root systems. Evening watering, while it may be cooler, can encourage fungus if the lawn is left damp overnight.
Benefits of Watering Your Lawn in the Morning
- Better Absorption: Cooler temps will limit water evaporating before it can reach the roots!
- Better Efficiency: Calmer winds allow for more efficient watering and limit water waste. Good news for your bill!
- Drying Time: Allows the grass blades to fully dry through the day, limiting the risk of fungal diseases, which thrive in moist environments.
It’s important to note that any water is better than no water, but the most ideal time of day is in the morning. If your schedule can’t align, do not skip watering altogether.
