Our Weekly Watering Recommendations
We hope everyone enjoyed their 4th of July weekend! Luckily for any firework festivities, the rain forecast was clear, but that means lawns are thirsty! We’ve received rain this week in some areas of Bryan, College Station, and NW Houston, but make sure to monitor the amount of rain your area receives to adjust your watering schedules accordingly. Our weekly watering recommendation stands to water 3 times weekly, aiming for .5 inches of water per session for Texas lawns to receive the recommended 1.5 inches per week.
Keeping Your Lawn Hydrated Under Watering Restrictions
Some areas may be under watering restrictions but maintaining 1.5 inches is crucial to your lawn surviving the Texas heat. If restrictions in your area limit you to watering twice per week, try aiming for closer to .75 inches per session. Check out our blog about “cycle and soak” watering recommendations to prevent runoff and water waste.
Check-In on Your Irrigation Systems
As the summer heat in Texas continues, it’s important to make sure your irrigation systems are operating properly. Check your irrigation output to make sure your sprinklers are delivering enough water per session. This can be done with a rain gauge or the DIY gauge option: the Tuna Can Method. Place a tuna can or can of similar size in each section of the lawn to measure the water output during each session. Additionally, it’s important to note that landscaping areas do not need the same increase in watering as your lawn! Check what areas of your property the irrigation systems are covering so you don’t lose water to landscape beds that don’t need it.
